The 2015 One Step Further exhibition opened last night, 22 October, at Mildura Arts Centre, Victoria and continues on exhibition until 7 December. I am delighted that it includes the latest work in my Wildflowers series – High Country Lupins #4 (78x81cm):
This work is made from luscious Oliver Twist Felt Trios:
I used a butted applique technique that enable me to achieve complex motifs:
My goal was to use wool throughout this work. I found that Aurifil’s 12wt Lana Wool thread (50% Australian wool and 50% acrylic) worked perfectly with a 90/14 topstitch needle:
This is stitch #109 on the Janome Horizon 7700:
Here’s a work in progress shot on my studio floor:
I learned a lot in the process and am keen to share my discoveries with others in my brand new workshop. Make a booking for 2016 and we can create with felt together! Download: Serendipity Workshops Brochure (PDF).
Creating with Felt: a new Serendipity workshop
Felt is a luscious, soft and pliable fabric available in an array of colours. It presents design and construction challenges for makers used to working with cottons but also offers exciting possibilities.
Learn how to create bold, graphic designs in acrylic and wool blend felt using machine applique, butting and inlay techniques.
You will complete several small compositions in a one day class that can be embellished further with hand-stitching if desired.
