Embracing the international love affair with red and white quilts, the Quilters’ Guild of NSW Inc has a special Red and White category in the upcoming members’ exhibition at Glebe Island (17-21 June 2015). I understand that there are over 100 quilts entered into this category and one of them is mine. Or at least, it will be once I get it finished. I am on the quilting home stretch at present.
Taking my cue from Gerrie Congdon, I bought a P2 (Part #200325000) high shank free motion darning foot for my Janome Horizon 7700 machine. I am enjoying the way it flattens out the quilt top surface and smoothly traverses seams and junctions. My local sewing machine store was puzzled at my request to order another foot as the Janome Horizon 7700 comes with a convertible freemotion set consisting of a foot holder and three feet; a metal open toe, metal closed toe and a clearview foot.
However, I learned to free motion quilt with a P2-style foot and it has become part of my muscle memory. Despite the extra bulk and the closed toe, I somehow “know” where the needle is stitching and I feel much more comfortable. Now back to my red and white project.

This is the only foot I ever use. I love it. I have never seen this convertible set you pictured. The only draw back is that the plastic eventually cracks, but then I just buy another.
