For my recent birthday, I received this book In the City- Drawings by Nigel Peake (affliate link). It is full of drawings exploring the lines, patterns, shapes, textures and rhythms of the city. You can see some sample pages on Nigel Peake’s website. Plenty of inspiration for Studio Art Quilt Associates’ call for entry for Concrete and Grasslands (see below).
The September 2015 closing date is a long way off but, since I already have a Grass series under way, making more grass-inspired works is integral to my creative plans. Look at the green hand-dyes on my design wall. I’m missing some hues and am planning a dyeing session for when I get back from QuiltWest, Craft & Quilt Fair, later in the month.

Concrete and GrasslandsPremiere Venue:
Grant’s Pass Museum of Art, Grant’s Pass, Oregon — June 1-July 29, 2016Exhibition Concept:
Concrete and Grasslands will explore the juxtaposition of the natural landscape and the human constructed cityscape. This call for entry asks artists to submit works that explore either the soft lines of nature or the hard lines of urban structures — or a combination of both. This exhibit will focus on the contrasts of both color and line, and the ways in which the natural world has been altered.Artists are invited to submit work that focuses either on a cityscape or landscape, rural or urban, or a combination in one piece. The work may be representational or abstract; the places represented may be real or imagined. Although there are no strict size restraints, no one side of the piece can exceed 60” in either direction
