While exploring the Tasmanian midlands, we visited the Tasmanian Wool Centre in Ross which includes a wool exhibition and history museum. Amongst the displays was this piece from the collection of the Queen Victoria Museum & Gallery, a magnificient tapestry designed by one of my favourite Australian artists John Coburn.
Then in the inflight magazine on the way home, I read about a the Artwork to Tapestry exhibition at the TarraWarra Museum of Art in Healesville, Victoria which features:
“…9 original artworks by artists GW Bot, Angela Brennan, John Coburn, Song Ling, John Olsen, Geoffrey Ricardo, Gareth Sansom, Yvonne Todd and John Wolseley, and their corresponding tapestry versions side by side in TWMA’s galleries. Visitors will have a rare opportunity to contemplate the works together, in order to fathom the lengthy process of interpretation and recreation that goes into the creation of each tapestry.” (Emphasis added)
The TWMA exhibition continues until 19 June 2011.
