My journey home from Quilt Encouter in South Australia passed very quickly. While I was at the airport, I was able to download a PDF of the draft Twelve by Twelve book which has been circulated to the group for review and final edits. And so I sat on the plane, transfixed as I scrolled through the 176 page document, a huge smile on my face.
Earlier in the year, we all submitted our content to our editor at Lark Crafts - Valerie Shrader. We understood that our material could be modified along the way but in fact there have been very few, if any, changes. Valerie has applied a featherlight editorial touch and worked with the design team to present our quilts, images and stories in an attractive and compelling fashion. We are all thrilled with the result and look forward to sharing it with you in spring (March) 2011.
Meanwhile, if you are interested in publishing your textile art work, then check out these two opportunities:
- Art Quilt Portfolio: The Natural World - Lark Crafts has announced that Martha Sielman will be authoring a new series of art quilt books. A new title will be published each year, starting in 2012. The first volume will focus on nature – animals, insects, fish, birds, microbes, flowers, trees, water, desert, icebergs – whatever inspires you about the natural world. Each volume in this new Art Quilt Portfolio series will include a Feature section, focusing on 15 to 20 artists in depth; this section will include an interview with each artist, several images of works by the featured artist, and a glimpse into each artist’s studio. The books will also include a Gallery of works by 70 to 80 selected artists, with one full-page image per artist. Lark Crafts is inviting all quilt artists to submit up to three entries for consideration. The call for consideration deadline is 15 August 2010. The entry form can be downloaded from the Lark Crafts website.
- Fibre Design Book - The Australian Forum for Textile Artists and Dragon Design are seeking images from artists/designers across Australia and New Zealand for publication in late 2010 of a juried collection showcasing fibre/textile objects created since 2000. All entries will be screened by Dragon Design, in the first instance, for technical quality of images and adherence to the competition rules, and payment of entry fees (if applicable). Images will then be transferred to DVD and sent to a panel of qualified judges (to be confirmed) for final selection. Entries close on 1 September 2010 - see the TAFTA website for more details.
