Fire Practice

In Warkworth, the town in New Zealand where I grew up, the sirens used to go off every Tuesday evening calling the volunteer firemen to fire practice. I’ve been doing a little fire practice of my own on my Firebrand quilt as I try quilting a flame motif for the first time:
Firebrand Quilting I   Firebrand Quilting II   Firebrand Quilting III
My flame shapes changed markedly as I warmed up so some judicious reverse quilting [unpicking] was in order. The overall result is a bit too reminiscent of woodgrain for my liking but that’s what experimental quilts are for - testing and improving your skills.

And speaking of Warkworth, the area is really jumping. I’m looking forward to visiting the Matakana Village Farmers Market when I am next in the neighbourhood, not to mention the new patchwork, needlework and quilting store.

  3. Sorry, that question was for your next post, the comment button is in a different place to most blogs. Funny how we are creatures of habit!
