Discouragement & inspiration

It’s been one of those kind of days - wet, wild and windy. Just perfect for cooking and quilting except that my hot cross bun dough didn’t rise as much as it should and the pastel fabric strips that looked so divine on my design wall just look blah in the quilt top so far. Sigh…
On a more upbeat note, I’ve been enjoying listening to some kiwi music CDs which I recently migrated from the main house collection to my studio. For the poetry enthusiasts out there, I highly recommend Baxter - a tribute to prolific New Zealand poet James K Baxter.

Twelve top kiwi musicians of quite disparate styles of music each selected a poem by James K. Baxter (who died in 1972) and set the poem (or extracts thereof) to music that was performed at the International Festival of the Arts in Wellington in 2000. To give you a bit of an idea, I found this MP3 sample of Song of Years performed by Dave Dobbyn on www.cdkiwi.com
Incidentally, the song has a vaguely Easter theme and concludes with a resounding “laus tibi, Domine” that Latin-speaking, and Real Thinking Woman, Kirsty can probably translate for you (but I think means praise the Lord).
But I digress…what I am wondering is whether anyone is up for a poetry quilt challenge in which you make a quilt somehow inspired by a poem? Or perhaps you already have one that you would like to share? Let me know!

Salvete, B! *chortle*
Must say, that anyone who grooves to Kiwi music AND James K Baxter is alright in my book! Rock on.

What an interesting idea! I have Moonflowers (Ipomeba Alba) growing over my pergola - they flower at night, are big with a soft, limey green star pattern in the middle and smell faintly of frangipanni. The leaves are like big green hearts. There were 16 flowers last night - even though it is getting cooler - and they love the heat.
I love these words from Robert Frost,
“The Moon for all her light & grace,
has never learned to know her place.”
The vine is messy, stragling all ove the place, but the flowers are so lovely - the more humid it is, the more flowers that unfurl whilst you watch - totally fascinating! See what you can do with that.
