After the anti-climax that was Haley’s comet, I didn’t take much notice of this week’s news that Comet McNaught would be visible on Australia’s southwestern horizons. But, lo and behold, last night I saw it and it looked exactly like a comet should – a bright ball of fire with a long tail lit up against the night sky:

saw a spectacular show on Saturday night up north at Pataua. This shot in the herald was taken just over the hill at Nunguru and is as we saw it. The pics on my camera just do not do it justice, but I have the “evidence” anyway. Could still see the comet from our house in AK last night, but was a bit of a let down with all the city lights.
